Damion Darrel Warren (Born 21 September1980, Westmoreland/Jamaica) best
known as
Teacha Dee, is a Jamaican Reggae singer and
former Secondary Educator with an international
music career spanning over 15 years. He is known
for songs such as "Smoke and Fly", "Rastafari
Way", "Jah Jah is Calling", "Party Day", "Long
Day", "Reggae Souljahs", and "Smuggling Weed"
just to name a few. His stage name was derived
from the Jamaican Creole for "Teacher" and a
shortening of his nickname "Deemus".
Warren was a full-time employee with the Ministry of Education Youth
and Culture in Jamaica when he recorded his first three popular songs
for European producers. He
continued to manage both careers from 2005 until 2012. He made efforts
to hide his first
two hit songs (Smoke and Fly) and (Smuggling Weed), from the Jamaican
music industry and
the Jamaican government, so as not to jeopardize his position in
Education. This resulted his
noticeable absence from the Jamaican and adjoining English markets
earlier in his career.
The popularity of Teacha Dee’s early singles resulted in his
first successful European clubtour in 2011 with him appearing on Reggae
Jam, Germany as a surprize guest. Due to a
rising demand for his appearances in 2012, Warren ended his teaching
career to pursue
entertainment internationally.
Since his appearance in 2011, Teacha Dee has appeared on Reggae Jam
live stage 4 times
and has performed on many reggae festivals in France, Austria,
Switzerland, Germany,
Denmark, and Hungary. He has also embarked on mini club tours across
Holland, Belgium,
Austria, Italy and as far south as Greece and as far north as
Scandinavia.
In 2019 Teacha Dee embarked on his first mini world tour, from Europe
into Central America, dubbed the Red Jacket Tour, with appearances in
Germany, Spain, France, Mexico
and Switzerland. The Mexican leg of the tour lasted an entire month,
culminating in a major
festival in Puerto Vallarta and several television and radio
appearances across San Francisco
Nayarit, and Guadalajara.
From Teacha Dee’s extensive discography, "Party Day" reached
number one in Germany’s
official Reggae and Dancehall Charts in 2014, on two separate
occasions. "Concrete Grave"
was listed in the top 100 reggae songs of 2016 in Romania. "Smoke and
Fly", his first hit,
was named one of the top marijuana songs of all times. It was featured
in a marijuana
documentary along with "One Thing About Herbs", both taken from his
debut album "Reggae Souljahs: Beating Babylon with music" released in
2012.
His sophomore album titled "Rastafari Way" released in 2017, was voted
5th best national
album in Germany, was ranked 2nd best reggae album for 2017 in Holland
and charted at
number 4 in Hungary. The title track "Rastafari Way", spent 14 days on
Beatport’s top 100
Reggae/Dub charts, peaking at 44.
In 2021, "Rastafari Way" made modern roots reggae history, by becoming
the first music placement in the 25th multi-award winning action
thriller, and Daniel
Craig’s final James
Bond Film, No Time To Die.
During this time, Teacha Dee attended two separate red carpet
events and performed "Rastafari Way" live at the red carpet movie
premiere held in
Frankenthal, Germany. He also appeared with Sam Gilly on VERA, a famous
entertainment
talk show in Austria hosted by Vera Russwurm on ORF 2 to speak about
Rastafari Way and James Bond.
In December 2021, Teacha Dee released his third studio album and first
solo project titled "Time Machine". This album has 17 tracks, most of
which were produced by Sam Gilly from
the Austrian reggae production label, House Of Riddim.
For more than a decade, Teacha Dee has been reviewed as one of the best
live performers
currently touring Europe in the modern roots reggae category. With a
discography
consisting of deep melodious spiritual messages with extremely catchy
punchlines,
audiences and promoters worldwide have never been disappointed.
